Cancer Connection - Stress
Progesterone occupies an important position in the pathway of hormonal synthesis. In addition to being the precursor to estrogen, it is also the precursor of testosterone and the all-important adrenal cortical hormone cortisol. Cortisol is essential for stress response, sugar and electrolyte balance, blood pressure and general survival. In short, progesterone serves to promote survival and development of the embryo and fetus. It acts as a precursor to many important steroid hormones and helps to regulate a broad range of biological and metabolic effects in the body. During chronic stress, progesterone production is reduced as the body favors cortisol production to reduce stress. This is an important point, as, anything that depletes our progesterone levels puts us at greater risk.
Today’s lifestyle is so fraught with stress and stressful situations that it is essential to replace the progesterone to maintain good levels.
Stress comes in 2 forms.
- Mental stress which we are all more familiar with, such as traffic irregularities, phones ringing, deadlines at work etc. and
- Emotional stress which is harder to detect as it has often been with us so long that we are not constantly aware of it.
Unresolved resentment, or unresolved relationship issues do a lot to deplete our immune system over a long period of time which does so much damage to our health. Sometimes these go back to our childhood and can take a long time to even detect.
There are many ways to help you to discover these.
Above all, it is essential to get your Immune System functioning optimally to keep you healthy.
